Blog Theme Change

Friday, April 30th, 2010 Posted in About Me, BAIMP, Uni Life, University

As those of you that follow can probably tell by now (absence of blog posts since last update might be a slight hint), I have a laptop once again. Due to the ash cloud that ground the majority of Europe to a halt Apple were not able to ship a replacement part to me (heatsink if you wanted to know, to stop the overheating problems). So instead they gave me a new laptop from their new lineup (15″ Core i5)

So with a new laptop and a fresh slate I am slowly clearing up all the folders and organising myself. (Spring is here after all, might as well do a bit of spring cleaning)

Along with cleaning up my laptop, I will clean up my website a bit too… I will be refreshing my portfolio with more recent (and more pretty) work that is much better than the work that is up there currently. Along with that, I will be changing this blog theme to match the rest of the website (I am sure some of you wondered why it looked odd in comparison).

Other than that, the essay for my media options has been finished. Went pretty well but I wish I had spent a bit more time looking for some more solid theory… Not easy finding theory for documentary though.

I had a pitch session as part of the university course. Was definitely interesting teaming up with TV production and scriptwriter courses again. We had to make a company and do a theoretical pitch to a big company over a particular event. We went for TOPSHOP and created a theoretical event that could take place in London and New York, with a competition on which city could dress up a theoretical model best. The theoretical winners could then win theoretical TOPSHOP clothes. The event would be held on a theoretical stage with large theoretical LED screens in Times Square and Trafalgar Square. We had a theoretical budget of £100,000 too!

Ok enough of the theoretical crap, you get the point. But yea, interesting event and gives insight on how best to approach a company and pitch yourself to them… Now all that I need to do is sort out my placement for this year

Anyone fancy giving me a 6 week job placement? Preferably paid but I am not fussy :P

Anybody???

Thought not….

Im back

Saturday, March 6th, 2010 Posted in About Me, BAIMP, Humour, Uni Life, University

I can’t help but say I told you so!

Sorry I just had to get that out of my system. At the start of this blog I said it wouldn’t take long before it went stale. However, after a considerable break I am back and writing another blog post. The last post left off with me finishing year 1 at uni. I am now well into year 2 and I have almost finished it!

Yes it has been that long since posts! But without much further delays and without going into all the stuff that I have been up to (because quite frankly it would be boring) I will update you with that I am currently working on.

Behold the games project! A twelve week assignment in groups of 4 or 5 with the aim to create some sort of interactive game in either Unity3D or Flash. What initially started off as being a simple project in my eyes has turned out to be a lot more difficult that I imaginged.

As with all my projects my ambitions far surpass my abilities but with the help from the rest of the group we may once again be victorious!

That is if I don’t collapse in a heap in the uni mac labs a bumbling mumbling idiot due to the sheer amount of scripting that has to be done.

The reason why I have managed to spare the time to write a blog post is because my laptop has decided that it requires a hard drive scan to fix errors. I started it initially at 9am this morning and it’s now 15:15. There is only so much work you can do on the iPhone. But the good news is that I have managed to make a considerable dent in the number of non essential items on my to do list (this blog post being one of them) bad news is that I am running out of time for those important to dos.

Anyway I have bored you enough with my ramblings and I have spent too much of your precious time already so all I can say is thanks for taking an interest in reading this far down and have a good day, what’s left of it anyway.

The long gone but since returned for a while,

Matthew Shield

Oh and before I forget again, I have finished my portfolio I just have to theme this blog to suit (another item on the todo list)

ok ok I’m going now

Start A Visual Diary

Monday, October 20th, 2008 Posted in BAIMP, University

“Start a Visual Diary”

These very words caused a long drawn out moan to escape me. Part of me just wanted to jump out of the lecture theatre window, however since there were no windows in the lecture theatre I had to sit and make do with the other part of me. The other part of me made me daydream and cast my mind back to the days in college. A level photography to be exact… Joy…

Basically, the purpose of a visual diary is to help me visualize key ideas and be able to develop them over the course of the year. Put simply (for those of you who are mindlessly staring at these words at 3 in the morning) it is a sketchbook filled with pictures and descriptions on the pictures on how I could develop them. It may also include various squiggles and shapes that I call drawings.

So what relation does this have to A level photography??? Well, I created a similar visual diary for the said lesson, with all sorts of pictures and ideas that I threw together. So the sensible option would be go back to my parents house, rummage around the cupboards and closets for hours only to find that my mum put them in the bin (or for the eco conscious of you out there, recycle bin.)

So, I have spent £6.50 and bought myself a black page ring binder, in hope that I will be able to fill it with ideas and pictures that assist me in a direction somewhere along the line of this course. It is going to be like starting a whole new blog all over again. Blank pages that must be filled with some fancy content that I’m going to have to scrape from the base of my cerebral cortex.

So bare with me a while. It may take a little time to get going, but I will post when I have managed to string a few things together to paste in my new book. That is, if I don’t glue my fingers together first…
